Enrichment

Enrichment takes place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, across the majority of the year and is a highlight of Archer Academy life. It offers our students the chance to try something new and different, discover hidden passions and talents, and collaborate with members of other classes and year groups.

The programme is tailored to each key stage so that our students can make the most of the opportunities available to them.

Lower School

Enrichment at Lower School is an unashamedly fun experience, which is all about getting stuck in and trying new things.

Students get to pick two options, twice a year, and we encourage them to be adventurous when making their choices. Popular examples include photography, manga cartooning, jazz dance, fencing, climbing, creative writing, tennis and football.

Year 9 students spend one of their enrichment sessions on a year-long accredited activity, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award or the Sports Leaders qualification.

Upper School

Our Upper School enrichment programme, known as Archer Plus, is designed to broaden students’ knowledge of the world beyond the school gates, helping them become accomplished, interesting young people who will stand out from the crowd when applying for sixth form and beyond.

Options include additional GCSEs in subjects such as Further Maths, Statistics and Latin, and accredited opportunities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, LAMDA, First Aid, Sports Leaders, Arts Leaders and Young Enterprise. We also offer a range of sporting, media, current affairs, debating and creative & performing arts courses.

Music tuition

Music is a prominent part of life at the Archer Academy. We believe that it is important to have a wide range opportunities for all our students to foster their musical talents and enjoy the creative outlet that music provides.

As well as teaching music formally through our curriculum, we also offer provision for instrumental tuition through our partnership with the Barnet Education Arts Trust. Tuition is available for students individually, in pairs or in small groups, in the following instruments.

  • violin
  • cello
  • flute
  • clarinet
  • bassoon
  • saxophone
  • drumming
  • guitar (classical, folk, electric and bass)
  • piano
  • keyboard
  • trumpet

Additionally, we have our own voice teacher who provides singing tuition on one afternoon per week. Our voice teacher also supports our students in preparation for school performances and productions.

Our enrichment programme provides our students with a range of other musical opportunities across the choral and instrumental spectrum. These include a choir, jazz band and orchestra and are all free of charge. Alongside these performance programmes we also offer composition, song writing and music theory.

We put on regular arts showcases during the year, giving students the chance to perform to an audience of parents, staff, governors and other community members.
