Volunteering and support

Help us make the Archer Academy the best that it can be

From our earliest days, we have received a huge amount of support from parents and our wider community, and we are very grateful for the time, money and experience that they continue to share with us. If you would like to get more involved in supporting our school, here are some ideas:

To support the learning of some of our students, we have a team of parent reading mentors. They typically spend one hour a week taking part in one-to-one reading sessions and the results are striking; as one of our volunteers put it ‘This week it was like a light went on; the difference between how he is reading now compared to a year ago is staggering, and the best thing is, he’s really enjoying it.”

If you could spare a few hours each week to help our students reach their potential in literacy, please contact Gill Wolfe, our librarian, via info@thearcheracademy.org.uk

With easyfundraising you’ll be supporting us whenever you do online shopping. Over 2000 retailers give a percentage kick-back to the school; so far we have raised over £2000 through this simple scheme. You can sign up here: http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/archeracademy

Our Friends Association puts on a range of events each year to raise money for our school, as well as giving parents the chance to get together and have some fun. Recent events have included our summer party, an auction evening and our fabulous annual quiz night. You can find out when they’re next getting together by emailing archerfriends@gmail.com.

Our Excellence Fund allows us to provide extra opportunities and resources that our core budget doesn’t cover. It benefits all our students, and so we ask all parents to make a regular contribution towards it. You can read more about the Excellence Fund and what we use it for here.

A recent survey of our parents unveiled a wide variety of skills and backgrounds along with a willingness to be called on if we need them. If you would be happy to be included on our list, please contact sarahg@thearcheracademy.org.uk. And if your employer offers match-funding, we are also keen to hear from you.

In 2016 a team of Archer parents and teachers raised over £3000 for the Archer Academy by taking part in the Race the Neighbours 10K. Keep your eyes open for this annual event and other fundraising opportunities – we always feature them in our weekly newsletters, which you can find here.

Our Bright Ideas series introduces our students to individuals who are specialists in their fields or who have interesting experiences to share, inspiring them to think about the world outside the school gates and the part they could play in it. We also put on regular specialist workshops in events like Big Draw Week, STEM Week, LitFest and MathsFest.

If you, or someone you know, has something interesting to share with our students, please contact brightideas@thearcheracademy.org.uk

If you have experience in fundraising and some time to spare, our fundraising team would love to hear from you. Please contact sarahg@thearcheracademy.org.uk.
