Sign of Four:
To develop students’ understanding of Sign of Four we highly recommend reading as many other Sherlock Holmes stories as possible. Conan Doyle’s stories were highly formulaic. It is helpful for students’ analysis when they can spot the patterns across the stories.
An Inspector Calls:
For reading around An Inspector Calls, it is useful to read other morality plays such as Arthur Miller’s ‘All my Sons’ and ‘A view from the Bridge’. These are both excellent companion reading and links can be made in terms of morality and responsibility.
To complement Macbeth it is worth looking at Shakespeare’s other nine tragedies.
- Antony and Cleopatra
- Julius Caesar
- King Lear
- Romeo and Juliet
- Timon of Athens
- Titus Andronicus
